BIKE TOURS AROUND KASOS

The following suggested cycling routes are linear (you return back through the same route).

Click to see the cycling maps in detail.

Panagia village - Emporios beach

It is the easiest and shortest cycling route, fit for everyone, no matter the age. Its total length is not over 1.5 km, nevertheless when going back to our apartments you will have to bike climb a smooth uphill slope. Start off Theoxenia Apartments, take the main road driving to Fri and then turn right to the fork in the road. After a few hundred meters away, you will come across Emporios beach; waiting for you for a dip or just to enjoy your beer at the seafront!

Kasos (circular route)

This route is a 23km loop trail, and the more lengthy one on Kasos, passing through all of the island's villages (5 hamlets in total), as well as various sites that offer scenic views of the dry hinterland and the Carpathian Sea, altogether adding to your Kasos Tours experience. Starting from Fri - the capital of Kasos -, take the road that connects the village with the settlement of Agia Marina, following the main highway that leads to the south tip of the island. At the church of Holy Trinity, turn left - now going on a north-easterly direction. This is the point during which you will experience off-road biking among deserted and isolated parts of the island until you reach the hamlet of Poli, where you will encounter no traces of human presence once again. Going back to Fri, turn to your right traversing through Emporios beach before you resume the circumnavigation of Kasos.

Panagia - Ammoua beach

Begin from Theoxenia Apartments following the descending road to Fri, search for the signboard that reads "Ammoua" running alongside the tiny airport of Kasos, and keep going all the way through the coastal trail that finishes at the beach. The roadway along this particular route, about 5 km long, is rated as moderate, well-paved and including soft riding height differences. And since there are very little cars around the island, you will get the opportunity to enjoy safely and with no distraction this unique rocky landscape on the north side of Kasos. Extra tip: stay in Ammoua beach till late in the afternoon to enjoy one of the best sunsets in South Aegean!

Panagia village - Antiperatos monument

The same instructions apply here as aforementioned above. The only difference is that following this route you do not pause at Ammoua beach, but you go further for another 1 km, so the trail in total is 6 km long, until you reach the dead end in which lays the monument of Antiperatos, a memorial dedicated to the Holocaust of Kasos, giving a historical twist to your cycling excursion. This is the exact spot from which the Ottomans invaded Kasos and afterwards burn the whole island down back in 1824. From there you can gaze at the Carpathian wild sea waters, take in the tranquility of the shoreline and stop-by the beachfront church of Agios Konstantinos!

Panagia village - Ellinokamara cave

This is a 4.7 km cycling route during which you will encounter a series of sites. From villages to various architectural and historical sites, you will traverse contrasting bike terrains (asphalt textures, dirt & paved roads) with loads of uphill and downhill tilts, before finishing at one of the most important sights of Kasos: aka the cave of Ellinokamara. This spot once served as a place of worship (throughout the 5th century) and later set out to become a hideout from pirate raids. Starting off Theoxenia Apartments, take the main road heading to the port of Fri and follow the signs indicating the village of Agia Marina. The last part of the trail is the one that will finally lead you to the cave's way.
(or exit on the main road and go all the way up to the one-and-only gas station, then turn right, entering the very first dirt road and right outside our property, aka Kasos Tours Estate)

Panagia village - Agia Kyriaki

It is probably the hardest and most demanding cycling route on the island, pitch-perfect to those who systematically bike, have build up their stamina, and thus can get by numerous kilometers of height variations. And it might be a 5.5 kilometers route, but feels like ten times longer! Begin from Theoxenia Apartments, take the main road down to the hamlet of Poli, considered to be the island's ancient metropolis, with only a few traces of an old Mycenaean citadel and the remnants of a Venetian castle rescued to our days. So far, its important to keep in mind the route's difficulty rating, however its not only about endurance. Mind that the uphill trail is followed by a semi-mountainous winding path finishing at the charming little chapel of Agia Kyriaki. The panoramic views at the northern coastline of Kasos from atop Agia Kyriaki and one of the best sunsets in Aegean Sea though, will compensate your cycling hard work!
